[ THE QUESTION ]

A lip conditioner is a small object. Screens are not kind to small objects.

Most product briefs arrive with the product treated as something that simply needs to be photographed. Put it on white, light it, move on. That was never going to be enough here. The whole promise of this product is how it feels: a peptide gloss with real slip, a colour that goes on soft and builds. None of that reads if the camera stays polite and far away.

So the brief we set ourselves was smaller and harder than the one we were given. Not "shoot the product", but make it feel as good on screen as it does in your hand.

Rather than treating the product as something that simply needed to be photographed, we wanted to explore how much visual mileage we could get out of it.Akash Shah, Yellow Cloud Studio
[ THE APPROACH ]

Get closer. Then get closer than that.

The campaign runs on proximity. Macro details. Texture. Angles. Product to face transitions. Application. Tiny changes in perspective that completely change how a frame feels. The bullet turning under a hard light so the glaze catches. A lip at a distance where you can read the finish rather than guess at it.

Half the campaign needed nothing but a white cyclorama and the right lens. The other half needed a set built from scratch. Knowing which half is which is most of the job.

You don't always need a huge set or an elaborate concept to make something visually striking. Sometimes, getting closer is enough.Akash Shah, Yellow Cloud Studio
[ THE SET ]

Lip balm, or noodles?

For the hero film we built a restaurant table inside the studio and plated the product like a dish. Bamboo mat, chopsticks, a bowl that looks appetising until you look twice. It is the frame people stopped on, and the reason Mad Over Marketing picked the campaign up.

[ THE STILLS ]

One shoot day, two setups, ten frames worth keeping.

Campaign stills ran on a second setup alongside the films: beauty portraits and application on one side, product only still life and the four shade lineup on the other, plus an oversized prop built at roughly human scale because a lip conditioner you can carry on your shoulder is funnier than one you cannot.
